Her Puck Perspective: Women’s Hockey Weekly Recap –  March 15th, 2026

A lot happened this week, so let’s dive right in!

News/Notes/Roster Updates

  • The Torrent placed Hannah Bilka on LTIR due to an upper body injury sustained during the Olympics (rumor has it she will not play again this season but if the Torrent officially announced that, I missed seeing it) and activated forward Jada Habisch from the reserve player list.
  • Emerance Maschmeyer was out of the lineup for the Goldeneyes’ first game this week due to an upper body injury.
  • Claire Thompson was back in the lineup for the Goldeneyes this week
  • Sirens players Casey O’Brien and Callie Shanahan were both listed as day to day with injuries.
  • The Charge signed goalie Kaitlyn Ross to a 10-day standard player agreement, with goalie Sanni Ahola staying in Ottawa for rest and maintenance while the team goes on a road trip.
  • The Victoire are reportedly shopping forward Natálie Mlýnková. This could be the start of increased trade rumors in the coming days as the trade deadline approaches on March 30th.
  • With an empty net goal in Friday’s game, Taylor Heise joined Alex Carpenter and Marie-Philip Poulin as the only players to reach 20 points in consecutive PWHL seasons.
  • Sunday was a tough day for injuries, with an injury in each of the 3 games held, and all of them looking to be fairly serious. Marie-Philip Poulin for the Victoire appeared to re-injure the leg she injured at the Olympics, Cayla Barnes went down for the Torrent and looked to be in a lot of pain with an apparent upper body injury, and Taylor Girard for the Sirens had to leave the ice on a stretcher after an awkward play and what looked to be a lower body injury.

PWHL Games

Fleet @ Goldeneyes

  • Final score: Fleet 2, Goldeneyes 1 (OT)
  • Attendance: 9,731
  • Goal scorers (Fleet): Haley Winn (2), Shay Maloney (3)
  • Goal scorers (Goldeneyes): Hannah Miller (2)
  • Thoughts: As would be suggested by the score and the fact that this game went into OT, this was an evenly matched game. There was no scoring until the 3rd period, when the Fleet scored early in the period and the Goldeneyes scored with less than 5 minutes remaining. Once they got to OT, however, it ended quickly; Shay Maloney’s goal came just 41 seconds into the OT. Both goalies were sharp in this game, and while both teams traded a few penalties, there were no power play goals scored.

Fleet @ Torrent

  • Final score: Torrent 3, Fleet 2
  • Attendance: 13,350
  • Goal scorers (Torrent): Alex Carpenter (7),  Mikyla Grant-Mentis (SH) (2), Danielle Serdachny (3)
  • Goal scorers (Fleet): Theresa Schafzahl (2), Susanna Tapani (5)
  • Thoughts: I’ll be honest, I didn’t think there was a chance the Torrent would win this game. They’ve had a tough stretch recently, and after the announcement that Hannah Bilka is out for the rest of the season and how well the Fleet have been playing basically all season, I thought this would be an easy win for the Fleet. I didn’t get to watch any of this game, but it sounds like it might have been one of the best games the Torrent have played this year. They outshot the Fleet 38-27 and killed 3 penalties. The Fleet held a 1-goal lead twice in this game, but the Torrent were able to answer both times, including scoring 2 goals in less than 2 minutes in the 3rd period (including a jailbreak goal to tie the game) to take the lead. It is worth noting that Aerin Frankel wasn’t in net for the Fleet in this game; this was Abbey Levy’s game. She still played well, so it was an unfortunate outcome for her. Props to the Torrent for a strong outing and a big win!

Torrent @ Frost

  • Final score: Frost 4, Torrent 1
  • Attendance: 11,120
  • Goal scorers (Frost): Peyton Anderson (1), Abby Hustler (3), Klára Hymlárová (2), Taylor Heise (5) (EN)
  • Goal scorers (Torrent): Lexie Adzija (4)
  • Thoughts: The Frost have had goals early in games on on numerous occasions so far this season, and this was another one, with their first goal just 2 and a half minutes into the game. They never looked back from that point forward, extending their lead to 3-0 before the Torrent scored their only goal midway through the third period. The Torrent had a bit of a push in the third period after scoring that goal, but couldn’t get another one past Maddie Rooney, and the Frost had a solid win.

Charge @ Goldeneyes

  • Final score: Charge 3, Goldeneyes 2 (OT)
  • Attendance: 11,201
  • Goal scorers (Charge): Fanuza Kadirova (7), Sarah Wozniewicz (4), Rebecca Leslie (11)
  • Goal scorers (Goldeneyes): Sarah Nurse (5), Sophie Jaques (5)
  • Thoughts: It looked like the Goldeneyes were going to pull off this win in regulation, with 2 nice goals in the 3rd period, but Sarah Wozniewicz is quickly developing a reputation for scoring big goals, with a game-tying goal with less than a minute left in this game. The Goldeneyes out-shot the Charge more than 2 to 1 (shots ended at 36-17), but couldn’t find a way to beat Charge goalie Gwyneth Philips another time. There was some controversy in OT; I haven’t seen the play again since it happened live, but it looked like the Charge should have been called for a penalty (slashing most likely) right before they scored the game winner. Again, I haven’t seen a replay of the play, but officiating may have played a part in the outcome of this game, which would be unfortunate.

Torrent @ Sceptres

  • Final score: Sceptres 2, Torrent 0
  • Attendance: 8,270
  • Goal scorers (Sceptres): Blayre Turnbull (6), Sara Hjalmarsson (3)
  • Goal scorers (Torrent): n/a
  • Thoughts: The Torrent’s struggles continue. For as good as this team looked on paper before the season, injuries have hit this team hard, and they have struggled to find enough chemistry to have any continued success in their season, especially away from home. The Sceptres played a good game and earned a solid win, pulling them into a tie for the last playoff spot.

Fleet @ Victoire

  • Final score: Fleet 4, Victoire 3 (OT)
  • Attendance: 10,172
  • Goal scorers (Fleet): Loren Gabel (1), Megan Keller (6), Susanna Tapani (6), Ella Huber (3)
  • Goal scorers (Victoire): Marie-Philip Poulin (9), Kati Tabin (2), Abby Roque (6)
  • Thoughts: The first two periods of this game were all Victoire – they got out to a 3-0 lead and seemed in control of this game, but the Fleet answered in a big way in the third period, with 3 goals in the period, including the game tying goal with just 15 seconds left in the game. The Fleet completed the comeback with the winning goal in OT. The Fleet continue to prove why they’re the best in the league, and proved today that they can win in comeback fashion, something they haven’t had to do much this season.

Sirens @ Frost
Takeover Tour game at Ball Arena, Denver, CO

  • Final score: Frost 4, Sirens 3
  • Attendance: 15,512
  • Goal scorers (Frost): Grace Zumwinkle (7), Taylor Heise (6), Britta Curl-Salemme (8), Grace Zumwinkle (8)
  • Goal scorers (Sirens): Anna Bargman (3), Paetyn Levis (4), Allyson Simpson (2)
  • Thoughts: This was almost our second big comeback game of the day! The Frost got out to a 4-0 lead, and looked to be in control of this game until the last 10 or so minutes of the game, when the Sirens scored 3 unanswered goals and put on a good push to tie the game late. Nicole Hensley, Colorado native, looked solid in net for the first 2 periods, but the team wasn’t as strong in front of her in the 3rd period and she went from looking like she was going to get the shutout win in her home state to hanging on to win the game. Definitely some things for the Frost to clean up, but they still won the game in regulation and maintained their spot in the standings.

NCAA Games

Thursday, 3/12

Yale vs. MN Duluth
UConn vs. Princeton
Quinnipiac vs. Franklin Pierce

Saturday, 3/14

Yale vs. #1 Ohio State
#5 Northeastern @ #4 Minnesota
UConn vs. #3 Penn State
Quinnipiac vs. #2 Wisconsin

The only upset from the regional semifinals and finals was #5 Northeastern beating #4 Minnesota, which is the smallest possible upset anyway, with the teams being seeded right next to one another. Minnesota was on a slide at the end of the season, and that continued in this game, where they weren’t anywhere near sharp enough against a good Northeastern team, and Northeastern took advantage.

Penn State has made it to their first Frozen Four with their win on Saturday, and the games are being played at Penn State, so they will have some nice hometown fan support for their first appearance.

Ohio State and Wisconsin looked strong, as they have all season, and they look to be on a collision course for another championship game matchup, It will be fun to see if Northeastern or Penn State can find a way to upset the Buckeyes or Badgers.
