Her Puck Perspective: Weekly Recap – December 21st, 2025 – Boston’s Winning Streak Ends & First 2 Takeover Tour Games

It was a busy week as PWHL play resumed after the international break. We saw the Fleet’s winning streak finally end (but no losing streak for the Fleet, as they won their next game), and we also had our first 2 Takeover Tour games of the season. Here’s what happened this week!

A quick programming note:

With the holidays coming up, the only blog posts you’ll see from me this week and next will be my usual PWHL game recaps. Everything else will pick back up in early January once we’re all out of the holiday haze.

If you want to stay connected in the meantime, I’ll be sharing a few fun, lighthearted posts over on Instagram — nothing heavy, just some festive women’s hockey energy to close out the year. You can follow along at @herpuckperspective.

Thanks for being here, and happy holidays to you and yours.

PWHL Games

Charge @ Goldeneyes

  • Final Score: Goldeneyes 2, Charge 1
  • Attendance: 9,250
  • Thoughts: This was a fairly evenly matched game in terms of the major stats: both teams were close on shots on goal, and obviously the score was close. There was only 1 penalty in this game, so it was mostly played 5 on 5. The Goldeneyes seem to be starting to really find their game and some more consistency, which was what I expected as this team had more time to come together. I think they’ll continue to become more dangerous as the season goes on. The Charge have played fairly well overall, but just can’t seem to put everything together to get the win in some of these close games.

Victoire @ Sceptres
Takeover Tour Game at Scotiabank Centre, Halifax, NS

  • Final Score: Victoire 2, Sceptres 1 (SO)
  • Attendance: 10,438
  • Thoughts: The first Takeover Tour game of the season was in front of a sellout crowd at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, and they were treated to an entertaining game! Both goals scored in this game (outside of the shooutout attempts) were scored in the first period, with the Sceptres getting on the board first with a goal from Anna Kjellbin, and the Victoire responding back later in the period with a goal from Maya Labad. The teams played fairly even hockey for the rest of regulation, with chances on both sides. In OT, Emma Maltais thought she had won it, scoring a goal about halfway through the OT period, but the goal was waved off due to a Renata Fast interference penalty that was called as the play was happening. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that happen before, with a OT game winner called back due to a penalty by another player on the play, but it was interesting to say the least. Neither team scored during the rest of the OT period, and in the shootout, Marie-Philip Poulin scored the only goal for either team, on her first attempt. The goalies both stood strong in this game.

Fleet @ Sirens

  • Final Score: Fleet 2, Sirens 0
  • Attendance: 1,884
  • Thoughts: The Fleet were really feeling like a team that couldn’t be stopped after this game. Teams hadn’t been able to solve Aerin Frankel, and the team is playing strong in front of her and getting enough scoring punch to keep this impressive streak going. They were 5-0 to start the season, and at times it looked like they’d never lose with how well they were playing. I’ll be honest that before the season started, I didn’t even have the Fleet on my list to make the playoffs, and I wasn’t the only one with that opinion; they’re proving a lot of us wrong, and looking impressive doing so! One other aside: New York continues to struggle to draw fans to their games, which could become a bigger issue at some point in the future. They have played at a few different arenas, and just can’t seem to get a lot of fans to come out to their games. It could be something to keep an eye on in the future if nothing changes.

Charge @ Torrent

  • Final Score: Torrent 4, Charge 1
  • Attendance: 9,389
  • Thoughts: Both expansion teams seem to be finding their footing a bit more this week, and the Torrent looked strong in this game. Alex Carpenter had a strong game, with an assist in the 1st period and 2 goals in the 2nd period. Ottawa’s only goal came late in the 3rd period, when the game was all but decided. It was fun to see two backup goalies get to play in this one, with Hannah Murphy getting the win for the Torrent in her 2nd game in net this season, and rookie goalie Sanni Ahola getting her first game in net for the Charge.

Fleet @ Frost

  • Final Score: Frost 5, Fleet 2
  • Attendance: 7,216
  • Thoughts: It was inevitable that the Fleet’s winning streak would end at some point, and this was the game. The Frost got off to a strong start in this game, outshooting the Fleet 13-9 in the first period, and outscoring them 2-0 in the period. The Frost scored another goal early in the 2nd to make it 3-0, but after that, the Fleet started pushing back and looking like the better team for long stretches of the 2nd and 3rd periods. Nicole Hensley was strong in net for the Frost, and made a few highlight reel saves as well. The Fleet scored 2 goals in 24 seconds in the 3rd period to make things interesting, but the Frost were able to hold off the late charge of the Fleet, and added a couple of empty netters to close out the win and end the Fleet’s winning streak. The Fleet still looked good in this game, and had a great push back after being down in the game and facing the most adversity they’ve faced so far this season.

Victoire @ Goldeneyes

  • Final Score: Victoire 4, Goldeneyes 2
  • Attendance: 12, 127
  • Thoughts: The Victoire are looking like a strong and complete team lately. Rookie Natálie Mlýnková continues her strong play with a gorgeous unassisted goal in the 2nd period, and goalie Sandra Abstreiter had a strong first game of the season to earn her first career win for the Victoire. The Goldeneyes pulled to within 1 goal twice in this game, but the Victoire were able to respond and keep and grow their lead when needed. The Goldeneyes lost for the first time on home ice, but in front of another strong crowd with over 12,000 fans in attendance.

Sceptres @ Sirens

  • Final Score: Sceptres 4, Sirens 3
  • Attendance: 3,517
  • Thoughts: The Sceptres were at a bit of a disadvantage from the start, with Renata Fast being scratched due to a lower body injury. She was injured at the start of the season as well; I don’t know if this injury is the same one she had at the start of the season, but either way, if this current injury lingers, this will be something to keep an eye on for both the Sceptres and Team Canada, as Fast is a very important part of both teams. The Sceptres held strong, even without Fast, and came out on top of a fairly back and forth game. The Sirens put 40 shots on goal, and both goalie Elaine Chuli and the Sceptres defense held strong today. The Sirens showed some strong responses today, but the Sceptres were able to hold off a late charge and win this game in regulation.

Charge @ Frost
Takeover Tour Game at Allstate Arena, Chicago, IL

  • Final Score: Charge 3, Frost 2 (OT)
  • Attendance: 7,238
  • Thoughts: The Charge desperately needed a win, or even some standings points, after being stuck at the bottom of the standings and holding with just their single regulation win up until this game. The Charge took the lead in the first period on a power play goal, and responded with another goal in the 2nd after the Frost had tied the game at 1. The Frost put 43 shots on goal, and goalie Gwyneth Philips continues to look strong, and the Charge played well in front of her as well. The Frost’s special teams continue to be a weakness for them, as both of the Charge’s goals during regulation came on the power play, and the Frost only scored 1 power play goal in 5 opportunities. Sarah Wozniewicz scored her first PWHL goal to get the Charge the win in OT after a fun and back and forth OT period.

Fleet @ Torrent

  • Final Score: Fleet 3, Torrent 1
  • Attendance: 11,023
  • Thoughts: The Fleet seem largely unfazed by having their winning streak broken in the previous game; they came back and played another strong, complete game in this one and look to be starting a new winning streak. Aerin Frankel was given the night off, with backup goalie Abbey Levy getting her first start of the season, and looking strong in net. Riley Brengman, who scored her first ever PWHL goal in the previous game against the Frost, scored again in this game, and the Fleet also got goals from Daniela Pejšová and Megan Keller. The Fleet held the Torrent off the scoresheet until the last minute of the 3rd period, so it was another dominant performance for the Fleet overall.
